New high-voltage line will reinforce Southeast Texas reliability and accommodate rapid industrial expansion.

On October 3, 2025, the Texas Public Utility Commission approved Entergy’s 500-kV SETEX project, clearing construction of a 145-mile transmission corridor and new substations. The project will enhance reliability for heavy industry, data centers, and Gulf Coast petrochemical facilities.

  • Total investment exceeds $381 million in new transmission assets.

  • PUC approval authorizes construction and route finalization.

  • Adds redundancy to a region facing explosive load growth.

  • Expected to begin construction Q1 2026 with 2028 completion target.

“Growth in Southeast Texas is creating incredible opportunities for the communities we serve, and it’s our responsibility to ensure we build a resilient power grid.” — Eliecer Viamontes, CEO of Entergy Texas

CONCLUSION

SETEX’s approval demonstrates the pathway from concept to shovel-ready project. For HVDC America, it illustrates how regulatory momentum can rapidly transition to real construction once corridor and funding alignment occur.
